This anaerobic process has a lower volumetric loading than high-rate anaerobic processes. It offers a longer hydraulic retention time and greater biomass inventory, resulting in a significantly more robust treatment process that is well-suited to digest COD, suspended solids (TSS), and degradable fat, oil, and grease (FOG).

  • Easier to operate and maintain than conventional anaerobic systems.

  • Operation and maintenance costs are low.

  • Approximately 90% less waste sludge generated than in aerobic systems.

  • Stable against shock loadings.

  • Waste activated sludge can be digested in the reactor.
